Certification Process

National Awarding Body
ICDL US is the ICDL National Operator in the United States. The National Operator in each country implements ECDL Foundation’s programs against a defined set of procedures, and therefore has the authority to award ECDL Foundation certificates in that country.

Approved Test Centers
Testing can only be taken at an Accredited Test center. ICDL US is responsible for accrediting test centers and auditing them on a regular basis to ensure they meet ICDL US and ECDL Foundation’s quality assurance standards. Accredited Test Centers are generally within:

  • Schools
  • Universities
  • Public bodies
  • Government departments
  • Private training centers
  • Training departments within private corporations

Certification
People begin the ICDL certification process by enrolling in an ICDL program at an Accredited Test Center. Training is provided for each module prior to taking the test and includes e-learning courseware and/or training manuals which have been approved by ICDL US and ECDL Foundation. ICDL diagnostic tests, which help prepare the candidate for certification tests, do not need to be taken at an Accredited Test Center.

Following appropriate preparation, the candidate sits a test in each module at the Approved Test Center. Upon completion of the appropriate number of modules, the Accredited Test Center informs ICDL US and the certificate is awarded to the candidate.
